Painless Delivery Hospital in Ahmedabad with 24/7 Epidural

We understand that many women in Gujarat have concerns about epidural, including the common myth that it can cause paralysis or harm the baby. Our program includes thorough education that addresses these concerns with facts: epidural analgesia, when administered by trained professionals, is very safe and does not cause paralysis or permanent back pain. Studies show epidural does not increase the risk of C-section when used appropriately. Our 24/7 anaesthesiologist coverage means you never have to wait for pain relief, and our team is skilled in various techniques including combined spinal-epidural for faster onset of relief.

Benefits of Choosing Painless Delivery at Shrey Hospital:

Controlled, Effective Pain Relief
Epidural provides the most effective labour pain relief available, reducing pain by 80-100% for most women. Unlike systemic medications that may make you drowsy, epidural allows you to remain fully alert and experience your baby's birth clearly. You can rest between contractions and conserve energy for pushing, making the overall experience more positive and less exhausting.
Clear Mind for Birth Participation
With effective pain relief, you can focus on the joy of meeting your baby rather than being overwhelmed by pain. You're better able to follow instructions from your care team, make decisions about your care, and remember the experience positively. Many mothers report feeling more in control and satisfied with their birth experience when they choose epidural.
24/7 Specialist Anaesthesiologist Availability
Unlike some hospitals where epidural may not be available at all times, Shrey Hospital guarantees 24/7 anaesthesiologist coverage. This means whether you go into labour at 2 PM or 2 AM, expert pain relief is available. Our anaesthesiologists specialise in obstetric pain management and use techniques that minimise side effects while maximising comfort.
Myth-Busting & Informed Choice
We provide honest, evidence-based information about epidural including benefits, risks, and who might not be good candidates. We address cultural myths common in Gujarat, such as fears about paralysis or back pain, with clear facts. Our goal is to help you make an informed choice that aligns with your preferences and values, without pressure or judgment.

Your Journey to a Comfortable Delivery

From education through delivery — comprehensive pain management support
about

1

Antenatal Pain-Relief Counselling
During your pregnancy, we discuss all pain management options including epidural, non-pharmacological techniques, and other medical options. We explain how epidural works, what to expect during placement, potential side effects, and address any concerns or myths. This education helps you make an informed decision before labour begins, though you can always change your mind during labour.

2

Admission & Labour Assessment
When you arrive in labour, we assess your progress, baby's wellbeing, and your pain level. If you request epidural, we review your medical history for any contraindications and explain the procedure again. We support you with non-pharmacological methods while preparing for epidural if desired, or throughout labour if you choose not to have one.

3

Epidural Placement by Specialist Anaesthesiologist
Our experienced anaesthesiologist explains the procedure, positions you comfortably, and administers the epidural. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes, with pain relief beginning within 10-20 minutes. We continuously monitor your blood pressure, baby's heart rate, and your comfort level, adjusting the medication as needed throughout labour.

Monitored Labour & Delivery
With epidural in place, you can rest, relax, or even sleep between contractions. Our team monitors your labour progress and guides you through pushing when fully dilated. Most women can push effectively with epidural, and we support different pushing positions. After delivery, the epidural catheter is removed, and sensation returns to normal within a few hours.

Helping You Understand Painless Delivery

Many women have questions and concerns about epidural and painless delivery. We’ve answered the most common ones here, addressing both medical facts and cultural myths.
Is epidural safe for me and my baby?
Yes, epidural is very safe when administered by trained professionals. Extensive research shows epidural does not harm babies — the medication primarily stays in the mother's bloodstream and very little reaches the baby. Serious complications are rare. Our anaesthesiologists screen for contraindications and monitor you closely throughout to ensure safety.
Does epidural increase the chance of needing a C-section?
No — large studies show that epidural, when used appropriately, does not increase the risk of C-section. While epidural can sometimes slow labour slightly, this is managed with medication adjustments if needed. The decision for C-section is based on medical necessity, not epidural use.
Can epidural cause paralysis or permanent back pain?
This is a common myth. Permanent paralysis from epidural is extremely rare — the needle is placed in the epidural space, well away from the spinal cord. Some women experience temporary back soreness at the insertion site, similar to any injection, which resolves within days. There is no evidence that epidural causes chronic back pain.
Will I be able to push effectively with epidural?
Yes, most women can push effectively with epidural. Modern low-dose techniques preserve enough sensation to feel pressure and push when instructed. Our team guides you through pushing, and we can adjust the epidural if needed to allow more sensation for pushing while maintaining comfort.
When is the best time to get an epidural?
You can request epidural at any point during active labour when you're having regular, painful contractions. There's no 'too early' if you're in active labour and want pain relief. Some women wait until contractions are very strong, while others prefer earlier relief. The choice is yours, and we support your decision.
