Comprehensive critical care with compassion and communication
Critical Care ICU in Ahmedabad — Advanced Intensive Care
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is where the sickest patients receive the highest level of medical care. At Shrey Hospital’s Critical Care ICU in Ahmedabad, we provide continuous monitoring and advanced life support for patients with severe infections, respiratory failure, heart problems, neurological emergencies, and post-surgical complications. Our ICU is equipped with advanced ventilators, continuous cardiac monitoring, dialysis capability, and other life-saving technology.
What sets our ICU apart is our commitment to both medical excellence and family-centred care. We understand that having a loved one in the ICU is incredibly stressful, so we prioritise clear, regular communication with families. Our visiting policies balance patient rest with family connection, and our staff takes time to explain conditions, treatments, and prognoses in understandable terms. With dedicated ICU specialists (intensivists) present 24/7, you can trust that expert care is always at the bedside.
Benefits of Choosing Shrey Critical Care ICU:
24/7 Intensivist Coverage
Unlike some hospitals where ICU patients are managed by specialists from other departments, Shrey Hospital has dedicated intensivists — doctors specially trained in critical care medicine — present in the ICU around the clock. This means expert critical care is always immediately available, not just on call.
Advanced Monitoring & Life Support
Our ICU features advanced monitoring systems that track vital signs, oxygen levels, cardiac function, and other parameters continuously. We have a full range of ventilators for respiratory support, dialysis capability for kidney failure, and equipment for invasive monitoring when needed. This technology allows us to detect problems early and respond immediately.
Clear Family Communication
We understand that families need information and support when a loved one is critically ill. Our ICU team provides regular updates on patient condition, explains treatments and procedures, and answers questions compassionately. We have designated family consultation times and ensure you are never left wondering about your loved one's status.
Seamless Multi-Specialty Coordination
Critical illness often involves multiple organ systems. Our intensivists coordinate care with cardiologists, pulmonologists, nephrologists, neurologists, and other specialists as needed. This team approach ensures comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of a patient's condition.

- Our Approach
ICU Care at Shrey Hospital
Comprehensive critical care with compassion and communication
1
ICU Admission & Assessment
When a patient is admitted to our ICU, our team conducts a comprehensive assessment including medical history, current condition, and reason for ICU care. We establish monitoring and treatment protocols, and communicate with the family about the patient's condition and our plan of care.
2
Intensive Monitoring & Treatment
Throughout the ICU stay, patients receive continuous monitoring and appropriate treatments — which may include mechanical ventilation, medications, dialysis, or other interventions. Our nursing staff provides constant bedside care, and intensivists make rounds regularly to adjust treatment as needed.
3
Family Communication & Support
We maintain regular communication with families, providing updates on condition changes and answering questions. Our staff explains complex medical information in understandable terms and involves families in care decisions when appropriate. We also connect families with support resources as needed.
4
Recovery & Step-Down
As patients improve, they may transition to our step-down unit for continued monitoring at a lower intensity. Eventually, they move to a regular ward and then home or to rehabilitation. We coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care to ensure continuity after ICU discharge.
- FAQS
Helping You Understand ICU Care
Having a loved one in the ICU raises many questions. We’ve answered common concerns to help you understand what to expect.
Who decides if a patient needs ICU care?
The decision for ICU admission is made by the treating physician based on the patient's condition. Patients who need intensive monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple IV medications, or have unstable vital signs typically require ICU care. We prioritise patients based on medical need.
Can family members visit ICU patients?
Yes, we have designated visiting hours that balance patient rest with family connection. Due to the critical nature of ICU patients, we may limit the number of visitors at the bedside and ask that visits be kept brief. Our staff will explain specific visiting policies.
How will we know how our loved one is doing?
Our ICU team provides regular updates on patient condition. We have designated times for family consultations with the medical team, and nurses keep families informed of significant changes. We encourage you to ask questions and will explain things in understandable terms.
What is the difference between ICU and a regular hospital room?
The ICU provides a higher level of monitoring and care than regular wards. ICU patients have continuous monitoring of vital signs, more frequent nursing care (often one nurse per 1-2 patients), and immediate access to life support equipment. The ICU staff is specially trained in critical care.
How long do patients typically stay in the ICU?
ICU length of stay varies widely depending on the condition. Some patients need just a day or two of observation, while others with severe illness may stay for weeks. We focus on getting patients stable enough to move to a lower level of care as soon as safely possible.
