Burns Treatment Hospital in Ahmedabad — Expert Burn Care

Burns require immediate, specialised care to prevent complications and achieve optimal healing. At Shrey Hospital’s Burns Unit in Ahmedabad, we treat all types of burns — thermal (flame, scald), chemical, and electrical — from minor burns to severe, life-threatening injuries. Our burn care follows established protocols for fluid resuscitation, wound care, infection prevention, and surgical intervention when needed.
What sets our burn care apart is our comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach. Beyond immediate wound care, we address pain management, infection prevention, nutritional support, and rehabilitation. For severe burns, our plastic surgeons perform skin grafting and reconstructive procedures. We also recognise the psychological impact of burns and provide emotional support for patients and families throughout the healing journey.

Benefits of Choosing Shrey Burns Unit:

Specialised Burn Care Expertise
Our burn care team has specific training and experience in managing burn injuries. We follow evidence-based protocols for fluid resuscitation, wound care, and surgical management. This specialised expertise leads to better outcomes, reduced complications, and improved healing for burn patients.
Advanced Wound & Infection Management
Burns create large wounds vulnerable to infection. We use advanced wound care techniques, sterile dressings, and infection prevention protocols. Our ICU provides intensive monitoring for severe burns. We also address tetanus prophylaxis and other infection prevention measures.
Skin Grafting & Reconstructive Surgery
For deep burns that won't heal on their own, our plastic surgeons perform skin grafting — transplanting healthy skin to cover burn wounds. We use various grafting techniques including split-thickness and full-thickness grafts, depending on the burn's depth and location. Reconstructive surgery addresses scarring and functional limitations.
Rehabilitation & Psychological Support
Burn recovery extends beyond wound healing. We provide physiotherapy to maintain mobility, especially for burns over joints. Occupational therapy helps patients regain daily living skills. We also offer psychological support to address the emotional trauma of burn injuries and help patients adjust to changes in appearance.

about

1

Emergency Assessment & Resuscitation
For severe burns, immediate assessment includes evaluating burn depth and extent (percentage of body surface area), checking airway (inhalation injury), and beginning fluid resuscitation. We address pain management and tetanus prophylaxis. Minor burns may be treated in outpatient settings.

2

Wound Care & Infection Prevention
Burn wounds require specialised care including cleaning, debridement (removing dead tissue), and dressing. We use various dressing materials and techniques based on burn characteristics. Infection prevention includes sterile technique, antibiotics when indicated, and monitoring for signs of infection.

3

Surgical Intervention if Needed
Deep burns or large surface area burns may require surgery including escharotomy (releasing constricting burned tissue), excision of dead tissue, and skin grafting. Our plastic surgeons perform these procedures using techniques that optimise healing and minimise scarring.

Rehabilitation & Recovery
As wounds heal, rehabilitation becomes crucial. Physiotherapy maintains joint mobility and prevents contractures. Occupational therapy helps patients regain independence. We provide scar management including pressure garments, silicone sheets, and scar revision surgery when needed. Psychological support continues throughout recovery.

Helping You Understand Burn Care

Burn injuries raise many questions. These answers help you understand burn treatment and recovery.
What should I do immediately after a burn?
For thermal burns, cool the area with running water (not ice) for 10-20 minutes. Remove jewellery and loose clothing near the burn, but don't remove anything stuck to the skin. Cover with a clean, dry cloth. For chemical burns, flush with water for at least 20 minutes. Seek medical attention for burns larger than your palm, on face/hands/genitals, or caused by chemicals/electricity.
How are burns classified?
Burns are classified by depth: First-degree (superficial) affects only the outer skin layer, causing redness and pain. Second-degree (partial thickness) affects deeper skin, causing blisters and severe pain. Third-degree (full thickness) destroys all skin layers, may appear white/charred, and can be painless due to nerve damage. Treatment depends on depth and extent.
When is skin grafting needed?
Skin grafting is needed for deep burns (third-degree) or large second-degree burns that won't heal on their own within 2-3 weeks. Grafting helps wounds heal faster, reduces scarring, and improves function. Our plastic surgeons determine if and when grafting is appropriate based on the specific burn.
How long does burn recovery take?
Recovery varies widely based on burn severity. Minor burns may heal in 1-2 weeks. More severe burns can take weeks to months. Deep burns requiring grafting have longer recovery periods. We provide specific timelines based on your injury and monitor healing closely.
Will my burn leave a scar?
All burns that penetrate beyond the outer skin layer will leave some scarring. However, proper care including skin grafting when needed, and scar management (pressure garments, silicone, massage) can significantly improve scar appearance. For problematic scars, revision surgery may be an option once healing is complete.
